INTRODUCTION
Hi my name is Saul, and I have played the MMORPG Knight Online for the past 6 years or so and have read countless upgrade guides in my relentless search for a reliable system of making some Noah (in-game currency). Now it's my turn.
I'm sick of conflicting upgrade statistics and probabilities. I realize it's time I gathered my own data and showed the steps I've used to obtain it so that by the end of my study there can be no doubt in the best way to upgrade and make a profit.
The study will take place on the Ares server, but the results will be relevant to all servers (despite market fluctuations between them).
Another note is that although it is widely accepted that upgrading is known to be a viable method of profiting in-game, the best method to do so is not extremely clear.
WHAT IS TO BE TESTED?
The data collected from all the upgrades will reveal/confirm the following:
a. % success rate of each upgrade level (i.e. +3 to +4, +6 to +7 etc.)
b. Overall gain or loss of Noah over a large sample of upgrades
c. Effect of different scroll positions within the anvil/scroll placing patterns
d. Most profitable method of upgrading:
d i. Different item class (i.e. Low, Middle, High, Unique)
d ii. Risk/Return theory (Is it worth going for +7 every time, or stopping at +5 or +6?)
d iii. Best methods for quick money and the best methods for making a lot of money over time.
METHOD
The first method of upgrading tested will be of high class items.
The results of the study will partly contribute to point (a.) above, point (b.) above for this particular method, point (c.) above and point (d ii.) above.
To begin I will start with 500,000,000 (500mil) in game currency (Noah).
For this first test all items will be attempted to be taken to +7 and when each item "burns" will be recorded to determine whether the Risk/Return Theory is accurate or false.
The following steps will be taken over a 2 week/14 day period:
1. (Using buy merchant ensures the lowest possible cost of materials, both items and scrolls. Note* The prices I have used are to the best of my knowledge the most reasonable for buy speed and Noah saving. Prices set lower would create a Buy Period lasting too long)
Buy merchant will be set up to purchase the following:
a. 7 x Iron Bow +1 @ 10mil ea. (The price of purchasing an iron bow and the price of selling it at +7 gives the greatest profit)
b. 30 x Blessed Upgrade Scroll @ 2.3mil ea. (200k saving per scroll. approx 25 used per upgrade set of 7 bows. 25*0.2=5mil saving per upgrade set. Approx 1 upgrade set per day. 5*14=70mil saving over 14 days)
c. 7 x Upgrade Scroll @ 100k ea. (Green ones) (Almost 100% success to +2, saving of 2.1mil instead of using BUS for each upgrade)
2. After all purchases made the 7 Iron Bows will be taken to the anvil and attempted to be taken to +7.
3. All scrolls will be placed in slot one to create a control experiment. The effectiveness of scroll placing patterns will be tested against these results.
4. All information for each Upgrade Set (set of 7 bows) will be recorded to determine everything from rate of loss(Noah), rate of gain(Noah), success rates, long term success/failure of upgrading
5. All +7 bows will be sold for 165mil (This price may alter with market fluctuations) without being reversed or having poison damage added (whether its worth adding those features will be tested as well)
6. If at any point in this test (or any other to be conducted) the 500mil reaches 0 (or any level of funds deemed to low to continue) the method of upgrading is deemed useless.
